A blessing of energy, renewal, strength and peace. Such lovely things to wish for someone you care about. To hope that the days ahead bring them strength when they need it, that their worries are washed away, and that they always find beauty in the world around them.
The words call upon the sun, moon, rain and wind, asking that each bring something good into our lives. Written in English and te reo Māori, this blessing is a way of sharing those wishes with another person, and introducing them to the beauty of te ao Māori.
I wanted the two tūī to fly towards one another, bringing a sense of connection to the blessing. The arches around the words are inspired by kōwhaiwhai patterns, with their interlinking forms reflecting the connections we share with one another. Together, the birds and patterns bring another layer of Aotearoa to the artwork.
